Alcoholics Anonymous

Sunday: Living Sober

Introduction

Hi, everyone welcome to the Sunday night 7:00pm AA meeting.
My name is __________ and I’m an Alcoholic.

We’ll start by going around and introducing ourselves to the group.

You’re all very welcome.

Let us open the meeting with a moment of silence to remember why we are here.

Preamble

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from Alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Anonymity and Confidentiality are vital principles of any Twelve Step Recovery group. Everything that’s said in the group meeting, and member to member, is private. All that is spoken is to be respected with strictest confidence. In this way we are truly freed and trusting to say what is in our hearts and minds.

We keep our shares free of crosstalk, which means that we do not interrupt any person while they are sharing, and we do not respond directly to another person’s share.

Please be mindful of the time spent sharing, so that as many people as possible will have the opportunity to share.

Living sober

Tonight we are reading from the book Living Sober. It’s ____ pages long so maybe if everyone reads ___ page we’ll get through the chapter

Pick a person with a book: Can you please start?

Thank you everyone for reading, the meeting is now open for sharing on any topic you wish provided it pertains to alcoholism.

End of Meeting

Thanks everyone. Shall I close the meeting?

AA Announcements and Birthdays

Are there any AA related announcements?

Are there any newcomers within their first 90 days of sobriety, who would like to identify themselves so we can get to know you better?

We give chips and coins for significant months and years of sobriety. Does anyone have an anniversary? (If so, tell us how you did it.)

7th Tradition

We have a 7th Tradition. Suggested donation is 10,000 dong. 50 of what we collect goes into the tip jar of the cafe and the other 50% goes towards literature.

Serenity Prayer

We’ll close the meeting in the usual way.

“God grant me the serenity

To accept the things I cannot change,

The courage to change the things I can,

And the wisdom to know the difference.”

AFTER THE MEETING

Handout “Hanoi Meetings in a Pocket” to visitors.

If there’s a newcomer ask same sex members to write their phone numbers on the back of a meeting in a pocket.

Disburse the money as follows: give 50% to the restaurant and save 50% to give to the AA Hanoi Treasurer at the business meeting on the first Sunday of the month.
